Our Tutoring Sessions

One of the main benefits of 1:1 tuition is that I can tailor my planning to the needs of the individual student in a way that is hard to achieve in a classroom setting. There is no set pattern or material for my tuition as every student is an individual, and I work alongside the parents and students to find the best approach together. Any background information you can give before starting is of great help.

When considering a tutor, it is so important to find the right person for you and your child to work with. They (and you!) need to have a good rapport and be able to work in successful partnership to make the sessions valuable and effective. I am happy to book an initial meet-and-greet online with no requirement to continue sessions if required.

Our Tutoring Sessions

It is helpful if tutoring sessions can happen in a quiet atmosphere so that your child is able to concentrate and make the most of their session. An exercise book is recommended to keep work together but is the decision and responsibility of the parent/carer. Paper, pencil and a dice should be available in each session and for KS2 children, a ruler may also be helpful. Parents are welcome to supervise but often this is unnecessary after a settling in period.

All tuition takes place on Zoom and your password protected login will be sent at the beginning of each block of sessions. All online games and material I intend to use as part of these sessions will be tried beforehand.

Sessions will last either 40minutes or 1 hour, as agreed upon by myself and the Parent/Carer depending on age, need and (vitally) the child's attention span.

How Do I Keep Your Child Safe Online?

I have Qualified Teacher Status and my training enables me to use age-appropriate language and subject material. I only use websites and resources from reputable companies.

I also hold an Enhanced DBS and am happy for you to view this prior to our sessions starting.

My lessons are conducted via Zoom. I use a waiting room for all attendees, which means I control who I allow to join the meeting. I conduct my online lessons in a separate room without disturbance. For your peace of mind, I can also record each session and make these available to you.

I use the ‘Share Screen’ function to teach but check all content before using with my pupils. In both individual and group sessions, I have control over chat, mute, camera and annotation features for all participants and have the ability to deactivate these functions if needed.
